In recent months there has been an explosion in the use of a "legal" derivatives of drugs such as ecstasy and methamphetamine. Many of these drugs are being sold under false pretenses that allow children and students to get around established drug laws with the simple phrase "not for human consumption". In the last few weeks there has been an alarming number of cases where the use of these materials have resulted in users being hospitalized and deaths.
In too many cases there is the perspective that since it is "legal" then it is alright. Sadly this is NOT the case. Upper Cumberland Regional Health in Cookeville, Tennessee has seen 16 young people in the emergency room in the past week alone (Herald Citizen, February 7, 2011).
